Players can finally bring that great studio sound to the stage and on the road.
VIP-5 preamp, the future of acoustic guitar amplification! Ovations new VIP (Virtual Image Processing) is the future of acoustic guitar amplification! Utilizing advanced imaging technology, the VIP-5 reproduces the sound of your guitar as if it were recorded in a state of the art recording studio with the finest microphones. Using spectrographic analysis, the pickup output is compared to the spectrograph of the recorded sound. The signal is then sent through approximately 1000 filters and shaped exactly like the recorded sound.
The VIP-5 preamp operates much like the other preamps in the Ovation line while the underlying functions are fully digital. The saddle pickup signal is converted to a digital stream where it takes two simultaneous paths. The first path directs the signal to the EQ section where you can adjust the bass, midrange, and treble spectra - just like other Ovation analog models. The other path carries the digital signal to an ultra-fast signal processor that modifies the original piezo signal waveform so that it becomes an “image” of the wave form created by the microphone when the guitar was recorded during the algorithm-creation session.
Please note that in order to maintain the integrity of the “mic” signal, the EQ does not affect the image output. To set up your sound, we suggest you start with the image slider in the minimum position and adjust the EQ for a piezo-only sound that meets your needs. Then gradually increase the image mix slider until the blend of the piezo and image create the optimal sound for your environment.
